Start with the product
The single biggest factor in filler selection is what you are filling. Water-thin liquids, medium-viscosity products, thick pastes, powders and granules each favor different technologies. Note whether your product foams, contains particulates, is hot-filled or is hazardous.
Define the container
Bottle, jar, tube, pouch, pail or drum: the container determines handling, nozzle style and whether you need a dedicated machine type. Collect exact container dimensions and fill volumes for every SKU you plan to run.
Set a realistic production rate
Express your goal in containers per minute and per shift. Semi-automatic machines typically run 5 to 30 containers per minute with an operator; automatic inline fillers scale by adding heads.
Match technology to requirements
- Overflow for thin, foamy products in clear containers where a consistent visual level matters.
- Piston for viscous products, pastes and products with particulates.
- Pump for versatility across viscosities and for shear-sensitive or sterile products.
- Flow meter or net weight where accuracy and documentation are critical.
- Auger for powders.
Plan the rest of the line
Most projects also need capping, labeling, coding and conveying. Deciding early whether you want one integrated line or standalone machines will shape which suppliers to contact.
