How speed is rated
Fillers are typically rated in containers per minute (CPM) or bottles per minute (BPM) for a specific product and container. Rated speed is not universal; a filler that runs 100 CPM on water may run 40 CPM on a thick lotion.
Why real output is lower
Overall line efficiency accounts for changeovers, cleaning, container supply interruptions and downstream stoppages. Planning at 70 to 85 percent of rated speed is common.
Specify speed clearly
In a quote request, state your target CPM, the fill volume that target applies to, the number of shifts and your expected annual growth. Suppliers can then size heads and recommend the appropriate automation level.
Bottlenecks beyond the filler
Cappers, labelers and case packers must match or exceed the filler's rate. Systems integrators can balance the full line.
